This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress Series #5)

This Side of the Grave - Jeaniene Frost Full review: http://smashattackreads.blogspot.com/2011/03/review-this-side-of-grave-by-jeaniene.htmlMy favorite quotes: http://smashattackreads.blogspot.com/2011/03/favorite-quotes-this-side-of-grave-by.htmlMy Thoughts (As with any series review, there may be spoilers for previous books)*sigh* Cat & Bones. One of the hallmark couples in the Paranormal Romance genre. It really doesn’t get any better than these two. They bring so much to the table and I thoroughly enjoy every book that Jeaniene Frost writes. She has the right amount of wit and snark, coupled with great adventure, fantastic characterization and hella hot smex. It’s a recipe for WIN.I loved the opening scene of this book. It really made you pay attention and get engaged in the story. ;) Cat & Bones don’t disappoint. There were some very tender moments and one particular scene had my heart melting. Cat lays her heart and soul on the table and I wanted to sink into my bed and cry softly at the rawness of it all. There is nothing like the love that exists between those two. And, they know how to have LOTS of fun, aren’t afraid to push each other to the very edge, and make a seriously kick-ass team.Jeaniene is always a bold storyteller, and I really loved her for a statement she makes in this book. There is a scene where Cat & Bones are talking to a human that Cat knows, and they let this individual know that all the creepy crawlies in the night do exist. This character thinks the world should know about the supernatural creatures, and Bones lets him know what a bad idea this is. When the guys states that humans could handle it, Bones so aptly responds:“The day your kind stops killing each other over skin color or which god someone prays to, I might believe that.”I really love her for making such a statement, and it is ridiculously true. I love it when authors speak ugly truths about humanity in their writing. It gets people thinking, and personally, we need to think more and stop pushing our values onto others! Ok, back to the review. Marie Laveau was a great character! What a mix of strength, wit and creepiness! I enjoyed her time in the book, and do look forward to meeting her again in the future. The bad guy in this book was a major despicable asshole. I wanted to spit on him after I learned of his abuse of others. Bleh. He was also a big ass wimp, hiding behind his army. Take that, dude!My love muffin, Vlad, shows up and we get a great does of his snarky ass. I love that vampire! I dare say he may be one of my favs, ever. The banter between Vlad, Cat & Bones is so very entertaining! Vlad also isn’t afraid to push those he cares about, and he pushes Cat into a situation of which even he is unsure of the end result - because he believes in her. We also get to see pretty much every character ever introduced in the series, which was nice. I absolutely LOVED the very end of the book. It really lightened the mood after some tough moments that the characters had to endure
